Matthew learned to do silver smithing after a chance encounter with an elder Shoshone man at a traditional ceremony in South Oregon. Kee Nee had done custom traditional silver and stone work for most of his adult Life. Matthew has been able to combine traditional values with contemporary tools to produce some of the most striking, beautiful artwork in fine sterling silver and semi- precious stones. Matthew cuts, shapes and polishes his own stones from turquoise, chrysacocca, sugilite and many other stones. Some stones he picks and digs from the earth himself. All silver is fabricated from scratch, using no factory, cast or pre-made pieces. The silver and stone work is constructed and polished with heirloom quality in mind, your selection of fine artwork and tradition will provide beauty and pride for generations.

Matthew Silent Thunder, a Mescalero Apache and of German decent enjoys living in the North West of Montana. He works out of a small wooden studio in the shadow of the Mission Mountains. He is a member of Coup Marks, a Native American Artist Cooperative based on the Flathead Indian Reservation.
